A Note from the Principal:
Greetings Thorson Families,
It was an exciting week at Thorson! We had our delivery of steel for building the structural supports of the classrooms that will surround the new gym. With this, all of the students and staff had the opportunity to sign a beam that will be supporting our new art room. This particular beam will be exposed in the art room and we will be able to see all of these signatures for years and years to come. It was an exciting time and an awesome experience for the students and staff. We are part of Thorson history! Check out our Thorson Facebook page to see pictures of our beam signing event and be sure to ask your child about it!
As you know, student safety is our number one priority. Within our building, students and staff practice various safety drills throughout the year. These include fire drills, severe weather drills, and other safety drills. In the next couple of weeks, we will practice a soft lock-down drill. The teachers and I will prepare the students for this drill and they will clearly know that it is a practice drill. We explain to the students that this drill is similar to our fire and severe weather drills and is done to ensure that we know what to do if there is ever a dangerous situation. After the drill has been completed, we will email all families that the drill has taken place.
Finally, the weather continues to change and is getting cooler. It is time to get out those heavier coats, hats, mittens, snow pants, and boots! Some families prefer to pack a cold weather bag with those items to keep on a hook at their child(ren)'s cubby during winter months. We love our outside play time, and we want to ensure that all students have the appropriate gear to enjoy their time outside. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for the weather. Thank you for your help with this!

Picture Retake Day is Wednesday, October 30th
If you would like retakes, simply send the entire original portrait package with your child on retake day indicating what you would like changed. Network Photography will retake and reprint the entire order with the new image for no charge. If your child does not return their original photos on retake day, Network can still retake their picture, but a new package will not be printed until the original package is returned.

Raptor System
Please remind family members, grandparents, friends that if they are coming into the school for any purpose that they need a valid drivers license for our Raptor System.
Notes for the Office/Change in Going Home Plans: Please call the office with any changes in going home plans (376-6705). If an email lis sent after 2:30pm we can not guarantee that email will be read before the end of the day and we want to make sure that your student gets home properly. Thank you!
Absent/ Late Arrival- If you are going to be late or absent, please call the Thorson attendance line at 262-376-6766 before 9:00 a.m. Please state your students first and last name, teacher, and the reason for the absence. If you are going to be late and are taking hot lunch, please let us know your child's lunch choice by calling the school office at 262-376-6705.
LUNCH ACCOUNTS Families in the Cedarburg School District have 1 account for lunch payments for all children in their family. Lunch payments are made online through Skyward or cash/check payments are accepted at all school offices.
This message comes with mixed emotions. However due to an increasing decline in participation we have decided to dissolve Thorson Dad's Club. Michael Anderson & I share much appreciation for all of those that have donated their time & efforts over the years. Even though this chapter is coming to a close we invite anyone that wants to get together we are always up for it!

Stuff the Bus: For the Saukville Community Food Pantry: November 11th-15th
Help us make a difference for local families in need this Holiday Season!
Parkview, Thorson and Westlawn Elementary Schools are working together to STUFF THE BUS with non-perishable items for Saukville Community Food Pantry.
Saukville Community Food Pantry serves over 350 families a year in Ozaukee County. Their reach goes beyond pantry services by also hosting free meal sites and an annual Back-to-School Fair to outfit local students with school supplies. Food Drives like ours help fill the shelves for the upcoming busy Holiday season the food pantry experiences every year.
Items most needed are: canned fruits and vegetables, pasta and sauce, rice, peanut butter and jelly, canned chunky soups, manwich, dry cereal, ketchup, mayonnaise, granola bars, toilet paper, paper towel, Kleenex, soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.
All donated items can be brought into school the week of November 11th-15th. On the morning of Friday, November 15th a GO Riteway Bus will travel to all three schools to pick up the donated items to help STUFF THE BUS! The GO Riteway Bus will arrive at Thorson at 11am that morning. The stuffed bus will deliver the donated items to the food pantry that afternoon!

Thorson Giving Tree Classroom Wish List- The Thorson Giving Tree has been created by the Thorson PTO to give parents/community an opportunity to give a classroom item to a teacher member any time of the year. Box Tops- Keep on clipping those boxtops and scanning your receipts. The next turn in date is Friday, October 18th. The classroom with the most collected boxtops with will the next popsicle party.
The Rock- Want to let the Thorson school /community know about something special?? Sign up to paint Thorson's celebration rock! !Sign-ups will take place at Sneak Peek 8/28! Click here to reserve your spot. The cost of the rock is $10 for a 24 hour period which can be made by cash or check.Message stays in place until another Thorson family secures a 24-hour period.

CSD 2019-20 PES Committee Hosts The First in a Series Of Three Events.
Presented by Cedarburg School District, Children's Hospital of WI, Rogers Behavioral Health, Tobacco-Free Suburban Milwaukee & Ozaukee Counties, Starting Point, Ozaukee Family Services and Washington Ozaukee Public Health Dept.
This free event will include a straight-forward discussion of the significant health and safety issues of vaping. Open to the public, this free community event features keynote speakers Dr. Charlene Gaebler-Uhing and Dr. Louella Amos from Children's Hospital of WI. The doctors will follow with a panel discussion that includes Andrew Crisco, Therapist from Roger's Behavioral Health.

Free & Reduced-Priced Lunch Program
Is your child eating lunch at school? Students enrolled in the free or reduced-priced lunch program receive school meals at a free or reduced rate at our schools.
New this year, Cedarburg School District is offering a School Breakfast program for Middle and High School students at a cost of paid: $1.45, reduced: $0.30. Meals are served before the school day begins at the CHS Snack Shack and Webster Cafeteria. The breakfast must meet the daily minimum requirements for all three food groups at breakfast (milk, fruit, grain/meat/meat alternative).
To make sure that your child is taking advantage of the nutritious meals offered at school every day, lunch menus for the month are posted on our website under the Families tab .
Applications may be submitted at any time during the school year and can be found on the Cedarburg School District Website under Families/Lunch Information or by contacting Ann Weaver at aweaver@cedarburg.k12.wi.us.
