4 Makes A Dollar

We are learning about the quarter. We found out that we need 4 quarters to make a dollar. We played a game where we spun a spinner with quarters. We had to color in the quarters to make a dollar.

Newsletter-Our Week In Review

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all the families that helped out with our Valentine's Party!  The children had a wonderful time!

This week we talked about the ai spelling pattern.  We found out that the ai work together to make the long a sound.   We sorted out short a words and long a words that had the ai pattern.  We made words that contained the ai spelling pattern like rain, pail, sail, tail, and snail.  We also learned the sight words "big"  and “blue”. We reviewed these words in the stories, poems, and writing we did this week.  We continue to review all words and assess through the year! Please continue to work on these words with your child.  Please remember that I test Star Words on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The story this week was Roses are Pink Your Feet Really Stink While listening to the story, students were working on the strategies of predicting, retelling, inference, making connections, and stating their opinion.  Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part in the story was.

Here is a video link to the story to enjoy!

In writing, we continue to work on our how to writing.  We talked about how to spell larger words.  We need to say it out loud, clap the syllables, and then spell it out.  We found that if we can spell big words when we break them up to smaller words. Try this out at home!

In math we are starting to work on money.  Students are expected to be able to identify and know the value of the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.

Reminders:
Jaguar Jump Start is on Monday.  Please wear your Jaguar clothes or the color blue.

Thank you for all of your support!

Better late than never...

As I was uploading and creating the Animoto video for our Valentine's Day party, I noticed I still had pictures from Christmas on my iPad that I never shared with you all!  Rats!  So, enjoy a little bit of holiday cheer from a few weeks ago.  As they always say... better late than never!

Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a great time celebrating Valentine's Day in kindergarten yesterday!  Thank you so much to Mrs. Schueller, Mrs. Martino, Mrs. O'Connor, Mrs. Sonnenberg, and Mrs. Duffey for organizing fun and games at our party.  Thank you to the families who donated items so our party could be a success!  The kiddos had a FANTASTIC time!

Enjoy the video of our party!

Winter Carnival – The Thorson Winter Carnival that was held on Saturday, February 4th was a tremendous success! Thank you to everybody who donated, volunteered, and attended the 2017 Carnival! Thank you for everyone’s hard work and dedication for this event, we couldn’t have don’t it without you. Kim Timm

From the PTO President - Thank you so much to everyone who helped to make the 2017 Winter Carnival a success!  We have heard of many families to went and who had a great time.  Thanks go out to all of the room moms, teachers and students, high school volunteer workers and parents both generous in their time and finances.  I'd be remiss not to mention that none of the Winter Carnival's successes would have been possible without Kim Timm and her hard-working crew of volunteers!  Their dedication, time, effort and coordination made this year's Carnival a hit, and put Thorson well on its way to being able to replace the outdated and increasingly dilapidated playground equipment.  Thank you!!!

Welcome back, Mrs. Winter!  We and our children have missed you and are so happy to see you back!

From the Silent Auction Committee
The Silent Auction Committee would like to thank the families, businesses, teachers, and staff for all the generous donations, support and BIDDING! We had so many wonderful items up for bid and, as a result, the silent auction was a great success!

Didn’t get a chance to bid? Couldn’t make the auction? Don’t despair, we still have a few great items remaining …
