Newsletter-Our Week In Review April 23-27th

Dear Parents,

This week we talked about the ew spelling pattern.   Words like new, blew, and grew all have this spelling pattern.  We continued to work on our Star Words- all of the words have been introduced.  We reviewed these words in the stories, poems, and writing we did this week.  We continue to review all words and assess through the year! Please continue to work on these words with your child.

The story this week was Piggie Pie.  While listening to the story, students were working on the strategies of identifying the problem and solution, retelling, visualizing, making connections, and stating their opinion.  Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part in the story was.

Here is a link to the video for you to enjoy!

We work on a poem each week.  This week's poem is called "Stung"  We looked for rhyming words, and sorted out words that had the same beginning sound and same ending sound.  I am sure you have heard this poem often at home!  We plan on sharing this poem with some of the big kids!

In math we have been working on addition and subtraction story problems.  Students are asked to write the fact families for each problem.  Two addition sentences and two subtraction sentences.

Reminders:

If you are able to donate a snack, that would be wonderful!  We are running low!
Monday is Jaguar Jump Start!  Please wear your Thorson gear or blue on Monday!

Thank you for all of your support!

Snacks, Dixie Cups, and Glue Sticks

Families,

We are running out of supplies!  The following items need a little replenishment.

1. Snacks- thank you to many families who have brought in snacks for the class to share.  The kiddos and I so appreciate it.  It has been helpful to have a little something in the morning and for those friends who forget to pack a snack in the afternoon.

2. Dixie Cups- Mrs. Willer gave us SOOOO many little cups but we have used them all up!  We are in need of some more small cups for the kiddos to get their snacks.

3. Glue Sticks- We are in need of some more glue sticks.  We did a lot of gluing this year and we ran out!

Thank you so much for your help!

Nature Ninjas Tomorrow!

Families,
We are participating in Nature Ninjas tomorrow!  We will be visiting our outdoor classroom and exploring the outdoors.  Please be sure that your child has:
Snow pants
Snow boots
hat
jacket
mittens

It may be a good idea to pack extra socks and mittens in your child’s back pack.  Some friends play hard in the snow!

Thank you for your support!
Take care,

Spring Celebration

This was one of our poems from before Spring Break.  Hope you enjoy it!

Race to a Dollar

In math we are learning about counting up to 100.  One way to do that is to count pennies and change them for a dime when we have ten.  We can then change ten dimes into one dollar, which is 100 cents.  Enjoy the videos of the kiddos playing the game.

The Golden KinderFit Gym

Our Pet Store has closed and opened up a fitness gym.  The Golden KinderFit Gym is now open for business in our classroom.  We have trainers to help you out with all of your fitness needs.  Students are able to visit the gym during our Literacy Centers and during free choice time.  Take a peek at our gym.

A huge shout out/thank you to Ms. Kestell who let us use such fun equipment for our gym.  The kiddos love it!

Enjoy a video with some of our happy customers!
