Newsletter- Our Week In Review
Dear Parents,
Wow! What a busy month this has been! It seriously flew on by. With all of the craziness that December brings, we have seen MANY friends display Positive Jaguar behavior. We have seen friends help clean up messes that they did not make. We have seen friends be patient. We have seen friends be quiet in the hallways. Ask your kindergartner how they have been a Positive Jaguar this month. As a reminder to all- How to Be a Positive Jaguar is to:
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Ready to Learn
This week we were able to make our gingerbread houses. A HUGE thank you goes to Olsen’s Piggly Wiggly for donating the trays that the houses are on. We are also all very thankful to all the families that donated the candies, graham crackers, and frosting for our houses. This project is a success because of all of you.
The students are excited for the holiday party tomorrow afternoon. Please be sure to bring in the item that you signed up for. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
**Upcoming reminders:
1. We will see you back at school on January 2, 2014! Wear your pajamas on the first day back!
2. When school starts back up again, please be sure your child has their FIRST and LAST name in their winter gear.
3. There will be a Science Fair at Thorson in January. Kindergartners are welcome to participate! Projects can be done with a family member or friend. More information will be sent home soon.
4. If you are able to donate more Clorox wipes to your child’s kindergarten classroom, that would be most appreciated.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to e-mail or
call anytime. Thank you for all your support!
Have a safe and wonderful holiday season!

Wow! Thank you!
Dear Families,
Thank you so much for the response to the Polar Express. I had a number of families offer to bring in the video. Thank you to Lauren's family for letting us borrow the DVD. We will have such a great time!
Another big thank you goes to Paige's family and Lauren's family for donating their old digital cameras. The kiddos will have a great time taking pictures of their work. I will be sure to share their pictures on our classroom blog.
Finally, thank you to the families who filled out the digital form for watching the Polar Express. Please be sure to give your permission to watch this movie.
Thank you! Have a wonderful weekend!
Take care,
Mrs. Rocky

Weekly Newsletter- Our Week in Review
December 12, 2013
Dear Parents,
This week we worked on the unit “What’s for Dinner?” in guided reading. We reviewed the letter “Cc”. We also learned the sight words "this" and “do”. We reviewed these words in the stories, poems, and writing we did this week. We continue to review all words and assess through the year! Please continue to work on these words with your child.
We are also practicing the strategy of summarizing. We are doing this by using the skill of making inferences. When we make an inference, we take what we already know about a subject PLUS we take what is given to us in the story and make a new thought. To make good inferences we look at what we have already read and what we already know in the story. We did this by reading/ listening to a book called Our Special Sweet Potato Pie It was a silly story about a family that was making a special feast for their dad. A really funny thing happened to the sweet potatoes! Talk to your kindergartner about this story!
In math students have been working on making creations with the pattern block template. Students were also introduced to the addition symbol and had a chance to work on some basic addition facts. We also continue to work on number recognition and number formation. Please continue to work on these with your child.
Reminders:
1. There is a HALF DAY of school TOMORROW. School will be let out at 11:35am. Please be sure your child has a plan for the afternoon.
2. Bring in the items that was requested for the gingerbread houses
3. Practice the self-care skills of zipping, buttoning, and tying shoe laces
4. Our holiday party will be next week Friday. Please be sure to bring in the items that you volunteered to bring.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to e-mail or
call anytime. Thank you for all your support!

Old Digital Cameras
Do you have an old digital camera that you are no longer using? Is it collecting dust in a drawer? Well, put that old camera to good use and donate it to our kindergarten classroom. We love taking pictures of our hard work and would love to share our pictures with you. Your generosity would be very much appreciated!
