We are doing this in support of our awesome gym teacher, Ms. Kestell. Ms. Kestell has already won PE Teacher of Wisconsin AND PE Teacher of the Mid West. She is now in the finals to be the PE Teacher of the USA! Hooray!
100 Day is fast approaching! We will be celebrating 100 Day on Wednesday, February 6th. We will be doing special activities all dealing with the number 100.
One of the activities that we plan on doing was having a special 100 day snack. Will you be able to contribute items to this snack? We would really appreciate it if you could!

Today we celebrate his life and all the good things he wanted for our world
Last week during Social Studies time we did some compare and contrast with some ordinary eggs.
A white egg and a brown egg.
We made a list of all the similarities and differences between our two eggs.
As you can see there were more similarities than differences!
We then decided to crack them to see what was inside.
Sure enough! They were the SAME!
This is the message that Dr. King was trying to tell us. He wanted everyone to know that we are more alike and we are different. It doesn't matter the color of your skin, it matters what kind of person you are.
We learned that Dr. King had a famous speech where he talked about how he wanted all children of all colors to get along. This speech was called "I have a dream"
We then started talking about our own dreams in how our world can be a better place. We discussed how not everyone has the same things that we may be lucky to have. Some friends talked about how they wished everyone would have a warm house, food to eat, and clean water to drink.
At project time, we did an activity where we made our own picture of Dr. King and then wrote down one of our own dreams for the word.
Here is an example of one of the projects. This is what Kyle did.
Kyle's dream was "I have a dream that everyone had a loving heart"
(Idea on his own! What a caring and loving friend! I about cried when I heard this one!)
You are able to see all of our friends' dreams in our kindergarten hallway.
Outside of our classroom, you will be able to see one of Dr. King's quotes:
I have a dream that my children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
Here is what a few friends said about what they learned about Dr. King.
Tanner: Dr. King worked so that everyone could go where they wanted to go. It didn't matter what your skin looked like.
Bailey: He said brown people and white people are exactly the same.
Luke: Dr. King wanted black people and white people to play together.
Ben: Dr. King didn't want people to fight. He wanted people to love each other.
Ellie: Dr. King wanted people to love each other. He won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Kellen: Dr. King had a famous speech called "I have a Dream"
Ally: He taught us that it doesn't matter what your skin looks like. It matters if you have a good heart.
Abby: He taught us that we should be good friends with each other.

We have been working very hard during writing time.
Starting this month, students have a choice between three prompts. Today the prompts were: 1. What do I wish I could do 2. My favorite part of the day 3. My classroom is special because... Students need to be sure to try to write two sentences OR students should try to use the word "because" in their sentence. Mrs. Rocky, Mrs. Papke, or Mrs. Hengst will come around to check in on everyone to see how they are doing. At the end of writing time friends will have the chance to share their work under the document camera. We will all listen and respond with some appreciations. Tonight your child is bringing home a little book in a plastic baggie. We have been praticing the emergent skills with books in school and we would like your child to share them with you. Please have them show you the title of the book, point to the words as they read, use picture clues, and try to sound out words that they don't know using the letter sounds. If they need your help, that is just fine. Your child should return this book when they are finished reading and take home another new book.

I noticed that the video for us Disco Dancing wasn't working! Rats! I was able to find a site that allows me to put in the link and there won't be any of those crazy ads/links to other videos. Here is the link for all of dancing to disco music.
We love dancing in kindergarten! It is a great way to get out some extra energy and it helps us prepare for the new tasks ahead.
Lately we have been watching the Just Dance Kids clips from YouTube. Friends take turns to see which one was their favorite. Recently, kiddos have loved doing the disco dance one! There are some good dancers in here!
If you are able to bring in an extra hand sanitizer or some disinfecting wipes, it would be greatly appreciated. With so many colds going around, we are doing our best to stay clean and healthy in kindergarten!

Due to the lack of room in our tiny tiny tiny coat room, I ask that students come into school on their own. We simply do not have enough room for extra family members to be hanging out in the morning. This includes older brothers, sisters, and parents. I know that everyone coming in is just trying to be helpful! However, it is actually causing more of a hassle in the morning. Being able to come to the classroom on their own, hang up their own coat, take off their own boots, and put away their own folder is a HUGE accomplishment for children. This is demonstrating a sense of independence and personal responsibility- which just so happens to be on your child's report card!
One of the technology goals for Kindergarten is to be able to login and log out of the computer. Each kindergartner is assigned a special login name and password. These login names and passwords can be a little tricky and will need lots of practice!
During the month of January and February, we will be going to the computer lab to practice using our login names and passwords. We will be going on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:00pm. If you are able to help us out, please click on the VolunteerSpot link. If something would come up on those days that we aren't able to make it to the computer lab, I will be sure to contact you.
