Newsletter- Our Week In Review

Dear Parents,

​The kindergarten students have been busy preparing for the upcoming holiday of Thanksgiving!  We are all excited for our upcoming feast that will happen on Friday.

​In Communication Arts, we have been working on reviewing the letter Ii and Tt, learning the sounds that they make and correctly forming the letters.  We have also been identifying the Star Words “play” and “at”.  The story this week was Duck on a Bike.  While listening to the story, students were working on the strategy of recognizing the story structure and the skill of identifying character and plot. The children really lovedlistening to that silly duck ride a bike around the farm!  Ask your kindergartner what they liked best about the story?  

​In Math, we have been talking about probability.  We talked about events that were certain, possible, and impossible.  For example, it is certain that we will have lunch today.  It is impossible that we would see a green sun.  It is possible that we could have pizza for dinner.  We also took out the pan balances again and talked about the concept of leveling.  Students were able to use nonstandard units to practice this skill. Please continue to work on number identification, formation, and ordering numbers 0-20 with your child.

 

Reminders:

• Please send your child with the proper cold weather gear!  Hats, mittens, warm jackets.  Practice that zipping!  Label all of your child’s cold weather gear. There are plenty of similar looking hats and mittens.

• Return your child’s payment for our Mammals program.

• Notes will be coming home about making frosting or bringing candy for our Gingerbread House project in December.

• There is a half day on Wednesday, November 26th.  Please be sure that there are plans made for your child.  School is out at 11:35am.

• 

There is no school on Thursday, November 27th or Friday, November 28th.

Newsletter-Our Week In Review

Dear Parents,

We had a very busy and productive first quarter.  You can see your child’s progress report for quarter one online.  We also look forward to meeting with you for a conference to discuss your child’s progress.

In Communication Arts, we have been working on identifying the letter Ii, learning the sound that it makes, and correctly forming the letter.  We have also been identifying the Star Words “is” and “it”.  Please continue to practice star words with your child.  We test these throughout the school year.  The story this week was On the Go.  While listening to the story, students were working on the strategy of recognizing the story structure and the skill of classifying and categorizing. The children really loved noticing all the different types of transportation there are around the world.  We discussed all the modes of transportation that we found and put them into categories.  Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part of the story was!

In Math, we have been learning how to measure with interlocking cubes or other nonstandard measuring devices.  We are able to compare lengths and arrange items by length.  We have also been working on counting and simple addition problems.  Students are beginning to understand the meaning of addition.  We all continue to have learning opportunities by working in our math journals.

Reminders:

• Please send your child with the proper cold weather gear!  Hats, mittens, warm jackets.  Practice that zipping!  Label all of your child’s cold weather gear.  There are plenty of similar looking hats and mittens.
• Return your child’s payment of $3.50 for our Mammals Program.
• We are sending a book order home this week – You can give us a check made out to Scholastic Book Club or order online using our code.
• Bring in those decorated turkeys!
• Please send a healthy snack for snack time.
• Our Thanksgiving Feast will be on Friday, November 21 at 1:15-2:00pm.

Cold weather ahead

Just a reminder that we do send children outside for recess twice a day. Please be sure that your child is prepared for the cold weather. Hats, mittens/gloves, and a warm jacket are HIGHLY recommended. Please be sure that your child's items are labeled. We often have similar cold weather gear! Please be sure to practice zipping and getting dressed with your child!

Newsletter- our week in review

Dear Parents,

We had a great Halloween celebration last week!  Thank you all for your help with costumes and treats!  The kids loved the parade! 

​In Communication Arts, we have been working on identifying the letter T, learning the sound that it makes, and correctly forming the letter.  We have also been identifying the Star Words “is” and “it”.  Please continue working on identifying star words.  We test these throughout the school year.  The story this week was The Bus for Us.  While listening to the story, students were working on the strategy of recognizing the story structure and the skill of making and confirming predictions. The children really loved noticing the pattern in this story and predicting what type of vehicle would show up.  Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part of the story was! Don’t forget to keep practicing star words with your child.

​In Math, we are learning how to write numbers 1-9, and drawing items to represent them.  We are always estimating using different objects, like pennies, cubes, and crayons.  The students keep getting closer to the exact amount!  We also continue to create and describe patterns and graphs.

​You will also find a turkey to decorate in your child’s folder.  Please bring that back to school as soon as possible.  Be creative!
