Dear Parents,
Our kindergarteners worked extremely hard decorating their Gingerbread Houses. They were very creative using a variety of colorful candy. Thank you to all our parent that volunteered to help that day!
This week we worked on the unit “What’s for Dinner?” in guided reading. We reviewed the letter “Cc”. We also learned the star words "this" and “do”. We reviewed these words in our stories, poems, and writing. We continue to review all words and assess through the year! Please continue to work on these words with your child.
We are also practicing the strategy of summarizing. We are doing this by using the skill of making inferences. When we make an inference, we take what we already know about a subject PLUS we take what is given to us in the story and make a new thought. To make good inferences we look at what we have already read and what we already know in thestory. We did this by reading and listening to a book called, Our Special Sweet Potato Pie. It was a silly story about a family that was making a special feast for their dad. A really funny thing happened to the sweet potatoes! Talk to your kindergartner about this story.
In math, students have been working on making creations with the pattern block template. Students were also introduced to the addition symbol and had a chance to work on some basic addition facts. We also continue to work on number recognition and number formation. Please continue to work on these with your child.
In science, we are learning about the weather. We are recording the temperature, clouds, wind, and precipitation in our journals. During our wind video, we also learned that we sneeze at a rate of 100 mph, faster than a hurricane.
