A Note from the Principal:
Dear Thorson Families,
The staff and I are looking forward to a fun last week to celebrate all of our successes this year with your children. I would like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for your support throughout this challenging school year. We had a wonderful year with both our in-person and virtual learners. I would also like to thank our Thorson PTO for all of the support they provide the teachers, our students, and the school as a whole. We are so lucky to have such a generous and supportive community.
We wish the 5th graders farewell and know that they are well prepared for their journey in middle school. We look forward to hearing about the great things that they do in the years to come. I’m so grateful that they will be able to have their typical 5th-grade celebrations this year. We also bid farewell to any families seeing their last child move on from Thorson this year and any families who are moving and leaving Thorson. Thank you for all you have done to support what we do at Thorson in your time here. We wish you all the best.
Please take some time this weekend to go through backpacks and bedrooms and return any found library books or school/classroom materials to the school next week. Also, please see the note and pictures below regarding our Lost and Found. Starting tomorrow, the Lost and Found tables will be outside for parents to come and obtain any lost items that belong to their family.
Finally, here are some other important reminders for the end of the year and summer:
Chromebooks: All in-person learners need to bring their CSD-issued Chromebooks and chargers to school on Monday, June 7. The Chromebooks will remain in the classroom for the remainder of the school year to be inventoried and inspected. Virtual learners are asked to drop off their Chromebooks at the location identified by the teacher no later than noon on June 10th. Please fill out this form if you know of performance issues or damages to the device or charger. Here is a link to the Parent and Student Chromebook Handbook that can also be found on our website if you have questions.
Summer Math Strengthening: Using their current login, students can access Dreambox Learning, a math program that supports Bridges instruction and is aligned to Cedarburg Standards. Setting aside 3-5 lessons per week (roughly 15 minutes per session) will provide your student with routine opportunities to continue their math learning, customized to their needs….and it’s fun at the same time!
Summer Literacy Strengthening - Independent reading, including regular visits to the Public Library, is highly recommended for continued literacy growth. Time set aside to find new books and return read books will create a pattern of anticipation and foster continued reading habits all through the summer. This school year, we have also used Lexia as a digital resource to support student literacy skills. We’ve learned that this program is most effective when supervised by a teacher. For that reason, we ask that you refrain from using this program during the summer unless your child is enrolled in Summer STEP or a staff member has developed a plan specifically for your child.

Lost and Found-
Please check out our lost and found outside Thorson's main entrance starting tomorrow. Please view the pictures to see if you can find anything that belongs to your student. Lost and found will be outside the main entrance till the last day of school.
Yearbooks-
Yearbooks will be distributed to all the students who ordered on Monday, June 7th!
Medication Pick-Up
If your child has medication in the office, please stop by between 8:00 a.m. and 3:45 p.m., next week Monday, June 7 through Thursday, June 10, to pick up any remaining medication. Any medications left in the health room after 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, will be disposed of.
Please note, we will not be sending medications to Summer Academy this year.

Nurses Corner-
As the end of the school year draws near, I have just a couple of reminders for our school families.
Medication Pick Up:
All medications that your child has on file in the health room, even if they attend the Summer Academy, need to be picked no later than Thursday, June 10th. Any medications that remain after the deadline date will be disposed of accordingly. Medications will NOT be sent to the Summer Academy this year.
Summer Academy:
If your child will be participating in the Summer Academy, and he or she will need to have medications on file, please note that you do not need to complete another medication form. The one that was completed and signed for the 2020 - 2021 school year will still be applicable. Please bring any medication, and the appropriate paperwork, to the Summer Academy office on your child’s first day of school.
Immunizations:
The Wisconsin Student Immunization Law requires that all students entering 6th grade receive a dose of the Tdap vaccine. If your child is moving into middle school next year, please be sure to discuss with your child’s healthcare provider if the Tdap vaccine is appropriate for your child.
Scheduling your child’s well-child check-up an appointment before the start of school will provide a perfect opportunity to discuss this and any other concerns you may have about your child starting middle school.

Lastly, I would just like to thank all of our school families for your support during this most challenging school year. With your support, we could “stay safe to stay open” and are finishing this school year strong. I wish each of you a happy and healthy summer and hope that you find some time as a family to unwind, relax, and enjoy.

Thorson Green Squad Needs Your Help!
Join us on June 13th at 1:00 for a Thorson forest clean-up! All ages welcome!
The Thorson Green Squad needs your help to keep our school forest safe and usable for all! We are looking for volunteers to help widen trails, blaze new trails, mulch trails, and cut down trees and invasive species so that our students and community can continue to enjoy nature.
If you can't make it, we need cardboard boxes with the tape removed! (Please only thick cardboard, no cereal boxes) Students can bring it to school and drop it off outside Mrs. Papke's 1st-grade classroom.

Riveredge Field Trip- At school!
Last week, Riveredge came to visit kindergarten. We had a great time going outside to learn all about plants. We went to the backyard of our school and visited the outdoor classroom. Please enjoy the photos of the group that I was with. (We separated the students into three groups) Ask your kindergartner about the fun day!

A Note from the Principal:
Dear Thorson Families,
As we wind down the school year, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your unwavering support. Our staff and students have shown perseverance and have maintained a positive attitude towards their learning. Thank you for setting that tone in your homes and partnering with us to make the school year successful for all of our learners.
We have scheduled our modified Field Day for Monday, June 7. All grades K-5 will have a scheduled time to rotate through a variety of stations. You will receive additional information from your child(ren)'s teachers regarding any end-of-the-year activities, but please note that we will likely use our outdoor spaces more often during the next week and a half. As a result, please make sure that students are dressed appropriately for the ever-changing Wisconsin weather. Thank you!
There is no school on Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, June 1.

Students still have a few weeks to check out; however, we would appreciate all books returned or overdue fines to be paid by June 1. Newsletter-Our Week In Review May 24-28th
Dear Parents,
This week we worked on the tricky y. We found out that when y is at the end of the word, it can make the long i sound. Words like fly, try, shy, and my are part of this spelling pattern. All of our star words have been introduced! Hooray! We reviewed these words in the stories, poems, and writing we did this week. We continue to review all words and assess through the year! Please continue to work on these words with your child.The story this week was Monster Trouble. This book is about a little girl who keeps getting bothered by monsters at bedtime. She keeps trying different ways to get rid of those monsters at night time. We learned from this story the importance of perseverance. When we worked on this story, we gained background knowledge, worked on vocabulary words, retold the story, and compared characters. Ask your kindergartner what his/her favorite part of the story was.

This week we continued to work on writing friendly letters. We wrote letters to our first-grade teachers and to some other special staff members in the building.

Newsletter-Our Week in Review- May 17-21
Dear Parents,
This week we reviewed the silent e spelling pattern. Words like make, tube, home, and time are part of this spelling pattern. All of our star words have been introduced! Hooray! We reviewed these words in the stories, poems, and writing we did this week. We continue to review all words and assess through the year! Please continue to work on these words with your child.The story this week was Jabari Jumps. This book is about a boy who overcomes his fear of jumping off the diving board. While listening to the story, students were working on predicting, retelling, and making inferences. Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part in the story was.
