Betty Brinn Tomorrow!!
We are all so excited to go to the Betty Brinn tomorrow! Please remember the following items;
**ALL students MUST be at school by 8:30AM- the bus will leave school at 8:40AM. Students should meet in our classrooms.
**ALL students MUST bring a packed lunch. Hot lunch will NOT be available.
** PLEASE eat a BIG breakfast. We will be eating lunch later than usual.
**Our scheduled time at the museum is from 9:30-11:30am
**Thank you to the many volunteers offering to chaperone our trip. Due to our limited bus seats, we cannot take you all. Please feel free to meet us at the museum. We would LOVE to play with you!!
Newsletter-Our Week In Review
This week we talked about the ake spelling pattern. We found out that the ake work together to make the long a sound. We sorted out short a words and long a words that had the ake pattern. We made words that contained the ai spelling pattern like snake, cake, flake, and even our friend Blake! We also learned the sight words "stop" and “that”. We reviewed these words in the stories, poems, and writing we did this week. We continue to review all words and assess through the year! Please continue to work on these words with your child. Please remember that I test Star Words on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The story this week was Abe Lincoln's Hat. While listening to the story, students were working on the strategies of identifying the problem and solution, retelling, inference, making connections, and stating their opinion. Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part in the story was.

In writing, we finished up our How To writing! Today was our celebration where we heard the stories of our classmates. The children did a wonderful job!
In math we were working on money. Students are expected to be able to identify and give the value for the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. Please work on this with your child.

TOMORROW is our field trip to the Betty Brinn. We have 3 parents coming from our room to help out. If you were not chosen to come on this field trip, please feel free to meet us at Betty Brinn. We would love to PLAY with you!

More baggies please!

Finding the right books for your kiddo
Families,
I have recently been getting requests on where to find books that your kindergartner would be able to read independently. (Like the books I have been sending home with your child in the pink or yellow envelopes)
You are able to find books like this on your own in the book orders that I send home. If you look really closely they will say GRL (guided reading level) and a letter. If you choose an A book that would be an easy reader. If you choose a M book, that would be more geared towards a second grader to be able to read independently. This leveling system is just another way for teachers to find books that children would be able to read on their own.
You can also go to Amazon. Here is a link for you. These books are on animals. These books are levels A-D which would be great for many of the kindergarten students. By clicking on this link, it will also direct you to other books that would be at these levels.

Making equal groups
We talked about making equal groups in math today. We had to roll a dice and whatever number came up, we had to take that many chips. We then had to make two equal groups. It was fun to practice with a partner.
Counted out 8 chips!
M rolled a 12!
He took 12 chips.

The story this week was Just Going to the Dentist. This story is a Little Critter story. If your child liked this story, there are LOTS of stories that have Little Critter as the main character. While listening to the story, students were working on the strategies of predicting, retelling, inference, making connections, and stating their opinion. Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part in the story was.

In writing, we continue to work on our how to writing. We talked about how to spell larger words. We need to say it out loud, clap the syllables, and then spell it out. We found that if we can spell big words when we break them up to smaller words. Try this out at home!
In math we were working on number bonds. We put two numbers together to build a number. For example 3 and 4 make 7. We also worked with number bonds to break apart numbers. For example, I had 9 balloons. 5 balloons were red and some were blue. How many balloons were blue? The students had fun hearing the silly stories that were made up.

Jaguar Jump Start is on Monday. Please wear your Jaguar clothes or the color blue.

Newsletter-Our Week In Review

The story this week was Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink. While listening to the story, students were working on the strategies of visualizing, retelling, inference, making connections, and stating their opinion. Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part in the story was.

In writing, we continued working on our how to writing. We worked on adding a materials list to our writing. This will tell the reader exactly what they will need in order to complete what we are telling them to do. For example in order to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you will need peanut butter, jelly, bread, a knife, and a plate.
In math we started to collect data and graph our results. We were able to find which items had the most and which items had fewer. We were also able to tell if any items were the same as others. We practiced graphing by sorting out shapes and graphing out candy hearts!
Reminders:
Tomorrow is our Valentine's Day party! Be sure that you bring your valentines in to pass out! Be sure to wear the color RED or PINK tomorrow to celebrate the day!
Please LABEL your child's cold weather gear. We have lots of friends who have similar items.

Happy 100 Day!
We are all 100 days smarter! Today we did a lot of fun things to celebrate the 100th day of school. During writing time we wrote about how our lives would be like when we are 100 years old. We also did 100 exercises, made a special 100 day snack, and made a special 100 day project. Here are pictures of us of when we are 100 years old! They made us laugh!
