Videos, online books, and app lists

I am often asked, where do you find the videos that you play in your classroom?  I found them on the #kinderchat Symbaloo page.  I am connected with other kindergarten teachers across the country and a few amazing teachers put these together for other kindergarten classrooms to enjoy.

I am including the website so you are able to explore all summer.  Enjoy!

I am also asked "What kind of apps can I use with my kindergartner?"  Here are a few sites that might lead you in the right direction.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id470693788- This site is an app site.  If you download it, they will inform you when certain apps are on sale!

http://mattbgomez.com/  This is our friend Mr. Gomez.  We played 20 questions with his class awhile ago!  (Remember that blog post?!  http://mrsrockyskindergarten.blogspot.com/2013/05/20-questions-with-friends-in-texas.html ) He is an AMAZING kindergarten teacher.  I often get many of my ideas on how to incorporate tech into the classroom from him.  On his website you will find lots of ways to use tech, which apps are awesome, and which apps just happen to free that day.  He also has a Pinterest board that you can follow as well.

Hope I can be of help!

Field Day!

Tomorrow is Field Day!  Keep your fingers crossed for GOOD WEATHER!  If the weather is uncooperative, there are back up plans.  :)  Hopefully they won't be needed.

A few reminders for tomorrow:

  • Be sure your child has a COLD, bag lunch.  No lunch will be provided at school.  (Unless you put your order in a LONG time ago to purchase a bag lunch)
  • Your child should wear socks and tennis shoes. We will be playing outside ALL morning.  Flip flops and sandals are not recommended.  We will be playing a LOT of running games.
  • Your child should bring in a water bottle with their name on it.  PTO will NOT be providing drinks this year.
  • Your child should wear sunscreen- even if the clouds are out!
  • Remember that ONLY 5th grade students are allowed to sign t-shirts.
  • Crazy hair is NOT okay for tomorrow
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me!

Take care,
Mrs. Rocky

Solid Shapes

Our class all got to use the 30 Hands app this week!  We were on a scavenger hunt for solid shapes.  Each child was in charge of a specific shape to find.  Their job was to take the picture and then add the recording to the picture.  Please enjoy the following video clips of our Solid Shapes!

Clothing Items

Is your child missing a piece of clothing?  Have a glove with no match?  What about that pair of boots that seemed to walk off on their own?

Please stop in the Thorson main lobby before Wednesday!  There are LOTS of articles of clothing that have been in the lost and found for months.  Take a peek... that hat you have been searching for since December might be there!

Student Blogs Have Been Updated!

We went to the computer lab yesterday.  Our student blogs have been updated!
Be sure to visit our other blog to read our lists about what we liked best about Kindergarten.
You can visit our student blogs by clicking on the link that is on the right of this blog!

This will be the LAST time that our blogs will be updated this school year.

Since these friends will be becoming BIG 1st grade students, I will be deleting their blogs this summer.  I will be doing this to get ready for my new students.  If you want to save their writing, it may be a good idea to start printing out their work.  I will leave their blogs up until August.  After that, they will be deleted.

Thanks!

Field Trip Tomorrow!

We're going to Riveredge tomorrow!

Please be sure that your child is at school ON TIME tomorrow morning.  We will be leaving right away.

Mrs. Hartling's class went today and said that it was very muddy out there.
It would be a good idea to wear rain boots or boots and bring shoes to wear later.

Please dress for the weather.  We will be outside ALL morning!

Thanks so much!

iPad Presentations

We have been busy working with the app called 30 Hands during our center time.  Friends first made presentations about the teachers in our building.  They had to take pictures and record audio.  These presentations will be shown at the start of the school year to my new kindergarten friends.  After they felt success on the first presentation, students could work on a project they they wanted to.  Some friends are working on taking pictures of the stuffed animals in our classroom.  Some friends are working on taking pictures of their classmates.  One more group is taking pictures of our classroom.

By using this app, the students are learning how to take pictures, how to work in a group, fluency, being creative, and decision making.   I am so proud of them!

Here is the group of friends working on the stuffed animal presentation.
