Thanks!
Frosting Cans
Do you need an excuse to make a cake or some cookies? Here is one for you! I am in need of some empty frosting cans. If you have any at your house, will you please consider donating them to our classroom? They make perfect containers to hold many of the card games that we play in kindergarten!
Thanks for making some yummy cakes and cookies! :)

Newsletter-Our Week In Review
September 29, 2016
Dear Families,
We have had another successful week in Kindergarten! Thank you for all of your help in preparing your children for the day.
This week during Reading, we have been working on the story, Chrysanthemum. In this story we worked on the skill of making predictions, retelling, character identification, inference, and opinion writing. Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part in the story was!
This week we have been working on the letters, q, o, e, and j. We have been able to make their sounds and identify words that start with these letters. We have also been working on our Star Words, “the & like”. Please be sure to practice these words with your child. Just as a reminder, I will be testing students on Tuesdays and Thursday if they return their sheets.
During Math we have been working on shape identification. We have talked about rectangles, squares, hexagons, and circles. We were able to make these shapes using geoboards. We also played Simon Says using the words above, below, next to, beside, in front of, and behind. Today we also started looking at 3D shapes- cube, sphere, cone, and cylinder. It was fun to search the classroom for them!
Reminders:
* Continue to send a healthy snack with your child- no cookies, chips, or candy.
*Turn in your child's permission slip and payment for our field trip to the pumpkin farm!
*Bring in an art smock in a Ziploc bag. This bag should be labeled with your child's name.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me!
Take care,
Guest Reader

Compare and contrast
In reading we compared the story Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse to Chrysanthemum. The kiddos did a great job at identifying what was the same and what was different. We filled in a Venn diagram to keep track of our thinking. Talk to your kindergartner about the stories!

Thank you!
I just wanted to say thank you again to all who donated to our morning snack supply. The kiddos are loving having a little extra snack in the morning to help them get to lunch. Happy kiddos = happy teacher!
Paint Dobbers
We love to do paint dobbers in our classroom. They are great for a number of activities! We use them to find letters, answer questions, and create projects. Unfortunately, we are running low. :( If you are out and about and would be able to pick some up for us to use in our classroom, that would be great! We would so appreciate it!
Thank you!

This week we have been working on the letters, c,a, d, and g. We have been able to make their sounds and identify words that start with these letters. During Math we have been working on number identification 1-5. We practiced this by playing a bingo game. The kiddos loved it! We also started looking closely at the shapes circle, square, rectangle, and triangle. Students needed to identify objects in the classroom that were that shape. We also sorted shapes that were curved and non curved.
Reminders:
* Continue to send a healthy snack for the afternoon with your child- no cookies, chips, or candy.
*Send in an art smock with your child's name on it in a Ziploc bag. Our art teacher Mrs. Petre is requesting that kindergartners have an art smock here at school.

Rest Towels
Thank you for returning your rest towels today! I completely forgot to tell you all that on Fridays I will send home the rest towels so they can be washed or switched out for a new one. Just bring everything all back on Monday. Thanks!
Book bags and Star Words
Dear families,
Today your child was given his/her book bag for the year. (Keep track of it! I will need it back at the end of the year!) Inside you will find a book that your child should be able to read. Since I am still getting to know your child, please be patient as I find the correct level of book for your child. The book that I sent home this evening might be too easy or even too hard. Your child should just do his/her best! Your child will be able to get a new book once they returned the bag and book. I will then give them a new book for their bag and the process can start again!
In your child's folder you will find a Star Word list. These lists were discussed at our Kindergarten Orientation. Please practice these words with your child. Once these words are mastered, please send the sheet back to school with your signature. I will then test your child on their list and if they pass, give them a new list of words to work on.
I ONLY test students on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your support!
Take care,
Mrs. Rocky

Going Home Tags
Dear Families,
In my hopes to make sure that everyone goes home in the right place, I have placed a little tag on your child's backpack. It will say how they will typically go home. Please keep this tag on your child's bag.
Thank you so much for your support!

Family Calendar
Dear Families,
The family calendar is NOT homework. It is simply some fun ways that you can spend time with your child. Do not feel like you need to do each activity. The calendar does not need to be returned at the end of the month.
Thanks!
