Videos of our school and classroom

Hi new friends!

Here are some videos that my friends from last year made.  One is with the awesome adults in the building that we will be working with.  The other is a little tour of our classroom.  Enjoy!

See you soon!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

My name is Erin Rocklewitz and I am going to be your child’s Kindergarten teacher this year.  I am so excited to work with your child!  This is my fourth year teaching kindergarten at Thorson.  I previously taught second grade for six years.  I just completed my Masters in Educational Technology through Marian University last summer.  I am excited to share my new found knowledge with your child!

Kindergarten is a time of new beginnings, of making friends, and learning lots of new things each and every day.  Our days and weeks will be filled with many wonderful experiences and opportunities for learning and growing. We will learn all about letters and sounds, and we will be doing lots of writing activities too.  We will also be learning all about numbers, building on important math concepts including sorting, counting, graphing, classifying, patterns, time and money, measurement, and addition and subtraction.  The children are always proud of the work they create and are anxious to share their new skills.  Families can help at home by reading to and with their child daily, and encouraging them to write and draw.  Young children learn as they play and their play is their work.  Research has proven this so.  In this context, your child will be learning all of the time this year as he or she joins in the tasks ahead.

I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success.  Throughout the year I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, weekly newsletters, quarterly reports, and parent-teacher conferences.  We also have a classroom blog.  Please check it out at http://mrsrockyskindergarten.blogspot.com/  I would encourage you to subscribe to our blog since this will be my main form of communication with you.

I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time.  You can call my voice mail at (262) 376-6738 or email me at erocklewitz@cedarburg.k12.wi.us

I am looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your child!

Take care,
Erin Rocklewitz
